JCGS May Meeting
The Johnson County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, May 8, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. at the Cleburne Public Library, 302 W. Henderson. We are very excited to have John Wylie, President of the Texas State Genealogical Society (TSGS), speak to us about the benefits of state and national genealogical societies and national conferences. As you may know, the Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference is in San Antonio this year on August 27-30. TSGS is a local host for that conference. It’s an excellent chance to attend a national conference close to home.
John Vincent Wylie has been a full-time professional genealogist since 1990. He currently serves the Texas State Genealogical Society as President and was the 2012 State Conference Chair. From 2007 through 2009 he served the Association of Professional Genealogists as national Secretary. He is the 2004 recipient of the Dallas Genealogical Society’s Lloyd Bockstruck Distinguished Service Award.

JCGS April Meeting
The Johnson County Genealogical Society will meet
Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. at the Cleburne Public
Library, 302 W. Henderson. Our program will be “Who’s Your Mama? Tracing Your
Female Ancestors,” presented by Terri Meeks. The public is invited to attend.
Terri Meeks retired from BAE Systems in 2007 as a test
engineer for F-16 support equipment. A co-worker introduced her to the world of
genealogy in 2000. She soon discovered that her grandparents were immigrants so
the traditional U. S. census searches produced few results. Tracing her
maternal line to Quebec introduced her to new materials and resources for genealogy
research. She is currently serving as Vice President of the Fort Worth Genealogical
Society and teaches their Beginners' Genealogy Class. She is a community
volunteer at the local Family History Center and translates Catholic Church
records from French, Latin and Italian into English for the American Canadian
Genealogical Society. Her husband, Dan, is also an avid genealogist and
techno-geek.
